Recover and relocate

January 25, 2023

I awoke feeling like a new person, and so grateful! Maybe a little weak, but no stomach problems at all. The two bottles of oral rehydration solution were a godsend.

I found a new little cafe and stopped in to have coffee and bread. It was a very charming and new place ( new in a 200 year old building). Afterwards I walked around the the historic district and found the Independence Market. It’s always wonderful to walk around inside these large markets that have everything you could ever want , and a lot that you would not! After the market I went back to the hotel to bet my laundry back and make final packing. I was glad that they could get it done quickly. I gave a nice tip to the housekeeper who helped my bathroom disaster.

I had my shoes cleaned by this 89-year old shoeshine, who has not plans to retire. There is no such thing he said.
I walked around Morelia to admire the colonial architecture.

It did not take long to get to the bus station, ask about which bus line goes to Patzcuaro, buy a ticket, and on the bus heading out in 15 minutes. The one hour ride was easy and I napped a little on the way. Soon I was in Patzcuaro, grabbed a taxi and was soon situated in my hotel, a beautiful natural setting with courtyard garden.

After settling in, I went out to get to know the town a little. It’s quite small, moderately tourist depenent, and quite connected to the indigenous cultures all around.

A young woman I met at the chocolate shop who plays a tiny guitar and also practices Kung fu, thus the Chinese characters.

This was a good day to rest up and enjoy the new location. Tomorrow I meet some friends of friends and we go out to an indigenous village.
