Slow, social day in Pátzcuaro

January 29, 2023

My internet connection is very sketchy tonight, so you may be reading an incomplete post.

Today was a day to make connections and socialize, and I did so with great joy and benefit for my future plans.

In the morning I had breakfast with Bruce Holden and extended family and friends at the Yolihuani Posada, and afterwards they invited me to stay with them in Guanajuato when I go there in a few days. They have an extra apartment attached to their house. I’m really looking forward to spending time with them and learning about his long work in peace, justice and community development.

My morning walk before breakfast took me by this bakery stand.
Hosts Erick and Vicky have run this hotel for 13 years, after a long period of work in international health.
After breakfast, I walked up this steep hill to my new friends house, Eileen and Bernard. He was a PhD Economics prof and NYU and she ran programs on child development in DC. They bought a house here about 15 years ago and now live here full time.
Bernard and I went up to Estribo mountain, a small public park and volcano active many years ago. We took an hour hike around the top of the mountain.

After hiking and chatting at Eileen and Bernards, we went out to eat at a beautiful organic restaurant, sitting in the open patio overlooking a beautiful garden.

While we ate, this young lady played classic tango music as well as others on the violin.

After all of this social interaction, I was dropped off back at my hotel, where I rested and later went out to a little cultural center, La Jacaranda, where and an older artist, Shelly and I sipped a little mezcal and listed to a humorous clown performance before exchanging information and heading home. It was a full and relatively tranquil day.
